What Not To Do When Tweeting

12:00 am | Uncategorized

Twitter is a social media phenomenon which allows you to connect to friends, family, colleagues, and even customers, with short bite sized bits of information. This little gem can be a great tool if used properly. Unfortunately, many people don’t understand how Twitter works and how far-reaching it can be.

The most important thing to remember — Twitter is very public! Unless you specifically block a person out or set your privacy profile to allow only those who follow you to see your Tweets, everything you Tweet is being broadcast to anyone in the Twitterverse. Not only can your followers see what you’ve written, but also so can anyone who does a search relating to your subjects. Also, do not forget about the “Retweet” button which can send your Tweets out to one of your follower’s entire Follow lists.

In order to avoid embarrassing incidents such as an employer seeing a Tweet about how much you dislike your boss or the fact that you are interviewing for other positions, it’s best to follow this Golden Rule: don’t Tweet anything that you wouldn’t want the whole world to know. One more little nugget of information to think about, things that are posted on the internet never truly go away.
